How can you prepare for the first visit?
Kiné Diddeleng receives patients on medical prescription. Bring your prescription, relevant investigations, specialist instructions and information about relevant treatments. Choose clothing that allows comfortable observation of the arm and shoulder. Keep sling instructions available if you have one.
Prepare two or three concrete goals: sleeping, dressing, carrying or a work task. Describe the actual demands and any concerns about a tear, calcification or movement safety. These are useful parts of assessment.

Assessment

Programme

Follow-up
Adjust to progress and healing stages.
What does assessment consider?
The physiotherapist explores symptom onset, accidents, changes and difficult activities. Examination may include movement, strength and how you use the arm. Findings are considered alongside the prescription and available reports.
Assessment also identifies situations needing medical advice before continuing. Shoulder pain does not always arise from the same tissues. A new weakness, recent trauma or unusual signs may call for referral or clarification as part of appropriate care.
How is the programme developed?
Goals guide exercise and task adaptations. The programme may work on mobility, strength, control and activities resembling daily life. Explanations clarify what is allowed, how much to do and when to request adjustments.
Manual techniques may complement rehabilitation when appropriate. They do not automatically replace active work or imply that a joint needs repeated repositioning. Appointment frequency and number depend on the situation; this guide promises no fixed package or recovery date.
Where do other treatments fit?
A doctor may discuss medicines, injections, imaging or specialist review. Surgery is an option in some situations depending on injuries, persistent symptoms and goals. It is not an automatic consequence of an imaging abnormality.
Explain what earlier treatment changed and what remains difficult. This supports reassessment rather than simply adding procedures. Injections, operations and specialist techniques described in these articles are general medical options; their inclusion does not mean the practice provides them.
What is different after surgery?
Cuff repair, stabilisation, biceps tenodesis and joint replacement require different precautions. The operation report and protocol specify permitted movement, range, sling use, weight-bearing and loading. Coordination with the surgical team matters.
Ask for clarification if instructions seem contradictory. Improved pain does not allow a protection stage to be skipped. General website exercises do not replace the postoperative programme; even assisted movement or movement without weights may be temporarily restricted.
How is progress followed?
Follow-up considers activities, mobility, strength and the response to sessions. Useful goals include a dressing movement, a period of work or a sporting task. One pain measurement does not need to define the entire recovery.
After surgery, healing and medical review also determine progression. A plateau, lasting worsening or new symptom may need further advice. The programme is adjusted; another person’s timetable cannot guarantee your own return date.

What should you ask during follow-up?
Ask which movements are allowed, what home dose to try, which signs mean stop and how the next stage will be decided. After surgery, establish whom to contact about unusual pain, an abnormal wound or new weakness.
Explain if the programme persistently disrupts sleep or daily activity. Work schedules, practical difficulties and available help matter when adapting it. For an emergency, call 112 in Luxembourg without waiting for an appointment or practice callback.
